About Nijdra

At Nijdra, we manufacture first-class precision mechanical components and mechatronic modules every day. In doing so, we take care of the (bio)medical, analytical, optical and pharmaceutical industries as well as the semiconductor sector worldwide.

We don't have a product catalogue; we make what the customer needs. From the smallest parts at the heart of machines that matter, to fully assembled table-top models. Where precision is often literally vital. It is done in our state-of-the-art factories: turning, milling and grinding. With micron-level precision. Precision. To the max!

But there is more! Our proud family business has been operating for three generations now. That vast experience in the high-tech industry means we can add value from development all the way to the final product. Co-engineering, production, assembly…, the customer decides. We value long-term relationships; intensive collaboration guarantees the best quality.

History

1947 --- 1974: Founding

J.L Nije started his conventional turning shop in Amsterdam. Son Johan Nije took over the business in 1974 and renamed the company Nijdra, an abbreviation of the family name ‘Nije’ and the word ‘draaierij’ (turning shop).

Nijdra timeline 01
1974 --- 1990: Growth through CNC technology

Johan moved Nijdra to a more spacious site in Westzaan and implemented CNC technology there. First in turning, later – after proven success – also in milling. That provided additional growth. In 1987, Nijdra Fijnmechanische Industrie B.V. moved to Middenbeemster.

Nijdra timeline 02
1990 --- 2003: Assembly and acquisitions

In 1994, Nijdra started a new activity: assembly of – self-produced – precision mechanical and mechatronic modules. There are also significant acquisitions: MeProTech in Heerhugowaard (specialising in prosthetics and dental implants) and – due to the growing demand for increasingly precise products – grinding company High Tech Mechanical Industrie in Limmen. We added the latter activity to the machinery in Middenbeemster.

Nijdra timeline 03
2003 --- 2011: Growth to System Supplier

The demand for fully assembled and tested modules kept growing and growing. This led to the opening of the current headquarters in Middenbeemster in 2003. By combining co-engineering, assembly and testing, the organisation grew into a full-fledged System Supplier. In the machine factory, we are investing in an FMS system: a fully automated and robotised production unit with three horizontal machining centres that can produce 24/7.

Nijdra timeline 04
2011 --- 2014: New shareholders

Jeroen and Saskia Nije took over part of the shares from their father Johan Nije. At the assembly plant, we invested in an ISO class 7 cleanroom. We converted the Heerhugowaard site into a prototype department with fast lane production, allowing us to provide customers with prototypes and 0-series.

Nijdra timeline 05
2014 --- 2018: Automation and robotisation

Investment was also made in the machine factories. Several new prototype machines were purchased and, in addition, all machines at our Middenbeemster facility were equipped with automation. Some turning and milling machines were also fitted with loading robots. Within Nijdra Group, the spearhead became: produce more with the same number of people.

Nijdra timeline 06
2018 --- 2020: Management addition

In 2018, Dennis van Dijk, previously Nijdra's Sales Manager, joined the management. Jeroen, Saskia & Dennis each provide day-to-day management with their own areas of expertise. As financial controller, Jeroen keeps an eye on the figures and deals with new investments. Saskia manages the assembly and business office. Dennis manages sales and both machine factories. In 2020, Johan Nije passed away at the age of 70 and his life's work was continued by them.

2020 --- 2024: Future Ready

The machine factory in Middenbeemster got a complete makeover. The factory floor was coated and a climate control system was installed. There has also been considerable investment in robotised machinery with the "Johan Nije Cell" as the absolute highlight. These are 2x DMU 80P with a robotic loader operating both machines. In addition, all our branches were fitted with LED lighting and solar panels. Plans are also being made to expand our assembly plant to include cleanrooms ISO class 7, for grade 4 assembly, among other things. Furthermore, we upgraded our ERP system and the business office is operating mostly digitally and LEAN.
